EDEPO has already established a strong presence through a series of initiatives. Specifically:
Publications
From its inception, the founding members of the Society recognized that its impact would be significantly enhanced through an active presence in the field of scientific publications. To this end, it was decided that one of the Society’s main pillars would be the long-established scientific journal, Perifereia | Region & Periphery, published by the Research Center for Economic Policy, Governance, and Development (EKOPDA). To align with its new role and better reflect the scientific direction of the Society, the journal was renamed Perifereia | Regional Integration: Politics, Economics, and Governance. It is hosted on the eJournals platform of the National Documentation Centre (EKT) and is fully open access, providing free publication and readership. The journal aspires to become a cornerstone of EDEPO, with the goal of strengthening its academic standing and achieving international recognition.
The first issue of the newly rebranded journal was the Winter 2023 edition, published as a special issue to mark the transition to this new phase and to showcase the Society’s activities. To this purpose, on 9 May 2023, the journal issued a public call for papers for a special issue titled "Structural Transitions and Multicrises in the Global Economy: Challenges for Regional Economic Integration”.
All issues and current calls for papers are available on the journal’s official page.
Scientific Conferences
EDEPO, in collaboration with the Institute of International Economic Relations (IDOS), successfully organized the Fourth Panhellenic Conference on International Political Economy in Athens, from March 28–30, 2024.
The conference, themed "International Political Economy in the 21st Century: From Globalization to Polycentrism?", aimed to elevate International Political Economy (IPE) as a relatively underrepresented academic discipline in Greece. Against the backdrop of recent global economic and political shifts—challenging the dominance of globalization and fostering a transition toward a polycentric international system—the conference sought to advance discussions on these critical developments.
Over the course of three days, researchers presented findings across various International Political Economy-related fields, including the International Political Economy of Energy, Geopolitical and Geoeconomic Challenges, the International Monetary and Financial System, and Science and Technological Innovation, among others. At the same time, the event underscored the high level of academic expertise and training in International Political Economy in Greece.
The Opening Session's keynote speaker was Yannis Stournaras, Governor of the Bank of Greece, while George Pagoulatos, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Greece to the OECD, also delivered a keynote address.
